“Whatever” religion

Consider this article: Moralistic Therapeutic Deism

It describes a belief system about “god” that is flexible and pragmatic.

It could be called the “Whatever religion”, because the reply from its followers about doctrine challenges is: “Whatever” (don’t care).

It is like having a bank account with supposed value of savings in there, but when you draw on it, you are declined because the balance was a computer error.

When you enquire, the bank manager replies: “whatever”.

This would be very unsatisfactory for most people, and similarly a “whatever” religion is dangerous in being so vague.

The Bible counsels that doctrine of belief is important:

1 Tim 4:16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Titus 2:1 You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.

The Bible warns:

Gal 6:7-8 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

“Whatever” religion is “sowing to please the sinful nature” through its vague, flexible doctrines.

If you are following “whatever religion”, then you are guaranteed to end up in Hell, because the Bible is very specific on the way of salvation:

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. (NKJV)

1 Tim 2:3-6 God our Savior……wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men–the testimony given in its proper time.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

“Whatever” religion is a religion of unbelief for deliberately exploiting the opportunities from being vague (“whatever” = vague).

The Bible warns the outcome of unbelief:

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (NKJV)

It would be very unsatisfactory if a surgeon was about to perform a medical amputation, and the decision on which limb to remove was: “whatever”.

Definitely if it was going to be your limb!

It is better to know about these warnings on belief while there is still time to change:

Rev 3:15-16 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm–neither hot nor cold–I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

That was the statement from God (via the Bible) that prompted me to make a Christian commitment in 1977, when I was 17.

There are many religions that lead to Hell.

There is only one way to get to heaven: through authentic repentance of sin and forgiveness from God via Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection, to pay the price of those sins:

Acts 4:10-12 …. then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is “‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

Hebrews 9:27 ….. man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment

“Whatever” religion is a serious self delusion of its followers.
